Brad Beckman
has worked in the entertainment industry for over 35 years. He wrote and directed his first play at 17 and started in media as a radio producer, DJ, and newscaster, first in the Houston area and then syndicated, but based in LA. While there, he also worked in TV, Film, and theater before moving to New York, where he worked with world-renowned director Richard Schechner as part of his East Coast Artists company.
While in New York, he also worked with the Teleo, Ninth Street, and Bond Street Theater companies, usually on productions in spaces like La Mama ETC, P.S. 122, NADA, and HERE. His specialty was Production Dramaturgy, both adapting and translating canonical texts to the contemporary stage. He also worked in the Sound Department of the NYU Film School, which marked the beginning of an academic career that continues to this day. He worked as a contributing writer and technician with the Rude Mechanicals on their seminal play Lipstick Traces, and his own award-winning bilingual short play, “Papeles,” has been produced throughout the US and internationally. He’s the former Artistic Director of the Fort Lauderdale Fringe Festival and the current Drama Editor for the Stone Canoe literary journal.
Today, he works as an acting and voice-over talent, coach, Casting Director, and Director, and is a National Michael Chekov Association certified teacher and trainer of that acting technique. He currently teaches acting and other subjects at Syracuse University. He works as a writer and in content development with MYGOSH.co, a production company based in Zurich. He regularly works as a freelance script consultant and writer and is based in central NY, where he lives with his wife and two children.
